Hard not to get a little UWS'ey but will do so with the utmost respect.

It's hard not to be a little conflicted on this issue for me. I think gay marriage is great. I think people are born with a pre-disposition to be attracted to one sex or another and some, fairly small minority, happen to be attracted to the same sex. No big deal to have two consenting adults marry each other. Big whoop, despite it being a sin, fine, churches should never be forced to marry two people they don't want to marry. Plenty of pastors have turned down the opportunity to marry two heterosexuals for a variety of rationale, I'm sure.

Now we get to those that are born feeling like they're the opposite sex of their birth sex. OK, that's fine, I think but it gets extremely gray here. Because we're talking about feelings. Gender segregated bathrooms are as old as public facilities themselves. I think where we've screwed up in recent years, is to have the government get involved on any level of this issue, that is to expressly permit or to expressly prohibit, by law, bathroom usage. It seems it's always kind of worked out. I'm sure plenty of transgenders (the ones who truly do pretty well pass as the opposite sex - rather than the silly cross dressers who heard about as a kid) have been using the restroom for which they identified and, importantly, appeared as for a long time. They didn't need no stinking law permitting such. It just happened and, only in extremely rare cases, was anyone the wiser. When a law like the one in Charlotte was passed, people will understandably be a bit up in arms. Bad legislation. Of course, to "fix" that the more conservative state legislature finds it necessary to institute a trump card of bad legislation. The issue seems to be only an issue because government are so inclined to pass laws that fit with their own opinions and outlooks, meanwhile without these laws, I think transgenders would continue to be in just fine of shape with respect to going to the bathroom based on their appearance.
